Boys Don’t Cry.

This art series is based on men’s vulnerability in society, where if men showed their emotions, they would appear less of a man. It is okay to feel and be vulnerable when you are anything but a man. When you are a “man” it is a strength, courage, success, and leadership that “define” your masculinity and value as a person. Or rather that is the narrative we have been sharing for generations. But this one contradicts itself. For to be strong we must first know what it means to be weak. Courage doesn’t come from an absence of fear, but an absence of being paralyzed by fear. Emotions aren’t what divide us, they only unite us as humans. And define us only if the narrative we write says they do. For humans feel, Humans are vulnerable, Humans cry. Girls are humans, Girls are vulnerable, and Girls cry. Boys are humans, Boys are vulnerable, and Boys cry. To say anyone doesn’t or state that they aren’t allowed to, is to say that they aren’t humans filled with beautiful expressive emotions. It is to take away from their light, their life, and who they are.
